摘要: This paper examines the "island effect" in two enormously influential colonial fictions published final decades of British Empire India. Through a detailed analysis Club scene Forster's A Passage to India (1924) and Orwell's pervasive use Kyauktada Burmese Days (1934), this brings critical focus phenomenon It explores way functions as an 'island' microcosm within larger framework isolation, intimate relations prevail its walls sustain isolated community which fears for survival outside enclosing border.
