摘要: Luminescence of the pony fish, Leiognathus elongatus, was observed in natural environment during nighttime diving. The light emitted from lateroventral portion body, as bright rectangular-shaped luminescence patches turned on and off periodically. Luminescent fish had a distinct clear patch flank through which emitted, whereas non-luminous did not have such patch. Both luminous were found within shoal, where individuals chased by ones. From previous morphological studies, are likely to be male female, respectively. Our observations provide field evidence that functions intraspecific communications L. elongatus.
