摘要: The objectives of the study were to measure and characterize exposure airborne nanoscale titanium dioxide during airless spraying sanding a nano-enabled paint, evaluate effectiveness dust capture methods in reducing nanoparticle concentrations. A tradesperson performed work activities an environmentally controlled chamber. Samples collected tradesperson's breathing zone surrounding areas assess bystander exposure. Filter-based samples analyzed using gravimetric methods, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy. Differential particle count data obtained by means mobility sizer. Local exhaust ventilation provided statistically significant reductions concentrations sanding. Sanding paint after drying with handheld power sander generated relatively low levels dioxide. In contrast, task-based measurements initial spray application suggested potential for occupational exposures exceed time-weighted average limit ultrafine recommended National Institute Occupational Safety Health. Painters applying coatings may have little recourse but rely, some instances, on lower tiers hierarchy controls, such as personal protective equipment. light these findings, employers industrial hygienists should implement controls ensure painters are sufficiently protected.
