摘要: Efforts directed at genetic modification of mosquitoes for population control or replacement are highly dependent on the initial mating success transgenic male following their release into natural populations. Adult mosquito phenotypes influenced by environmental conditions experienced as larvae. Semifield studies conducted to date have not taken that under consideration when testing fitness, and compared males reared identical conditions. We performed pairwise challenges between from a genetically modified laboratory strain (BF2) versus recent Trinidad field isolate Aedes aegypti (L.), major vector multiple arboviruses. utilized larval density nutrition simulate stress females. Our results indicated during development negatively competitiveness reproductive paired with optimum BF2 males. Small (0.027 m3) large (0.216 trials were wherein stressed competed When competing males, predominant in matings females, proportions these females mated both strains. no difference was observed them frequencies low. indicate future competition should incorporate appropriate designing fitness
