摘要: In this study we investigated the nitrate (NO3−–N) attenuating capabilities of two headwater stream riparian zones in southern Ontario. Peak concentrations groundwater NO3−–N at sites adjacent Speed River and Carroll Creek occurred spring. Both areas showed a capacity to deplete essentially 100% from subsurface waters. Attenuation was concentrated leading 20 – 30 m zones, suggesting had significant, unused potential for depletion. At Creek, comparative differently vegetated performed. woody grassy demonstrated decrease below limits detection (<0.02 mg/L). However, zone depleted over shorter distance than zone, it greater attenuation.
