摘要: Nomadic movements are often a consequence of unpredictable resource dynamics. However, how nomadic ungulates select dynamic resources is still understudied. Here we examined selection Mongolian gazelles (Procapra gutturosa) in the Eastern Steppe Mongolia. We used daily GPS locations 33 tracked up to 3.5 years. for forage during growing season using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). In winter snow cover which mediates access and drinking water. studied at population level functions (RSFs) as well on individual step-selection (SSFs) varying spatio-temporal scales from 1 10 days. Results analyses differed. At found higher than average NDVI season. This may indicate areas with more within arid steppe landscape. winter, selected intermediate cover, preference offer some hydration but not so much hinder movement. level, both seasons across scales, were able detect majority individuals, was similar that seen RSFs those individuals showing selection. Difficulty finding SSFs random search strategy find landscape large, homogeneous vegetation. The combination searches characteristics could therefore obscure results fine scale SSFs. significant broader RSF highlight that, although show uncoordinated movement trajectories, they ultimately vegetation cover.
