摘要: Old-growth western larch has been degraded throughout much of its historic range due to extensive timber harvest and fire suppression. We examined the effects a restoration treatment on snowshoe hares, denizen boreal forest serving as focal animal species indicate health restored ecosystem. implemented using “doughnut thinning” accelerate development old-growth attributes in stands simultaneously short-term hare density, survival, movement. Although typical management activities tend have adverse hares especially short term, we found that did not affect density or survival term. In addition, despite significant decreases cover coinciding with needle drop, evidence year-round immigration into by suggesting are suitable habitat. Taken together, our findings suggest designed can be so no measurable detrimental hares.
