Effects of Adjuvant Hydrotherapy on Functional Status and Mental Relaxation in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis: Preliminary Study

摘要: Background: The aim of this study is to test if adjuvant hydrotherapy with viscosupplement beneficial on management pain, stiffness, function, and mental relaxation in knee osteoarthritis (OA). Methods: Nineteen patients OA were randomly assigned or control groups. All received injections once a week for 3 weeks. Hydrotherapy group (n=9) had spa containing green tea, days 2 (n=10) only injections. assessed at baseline after the third injection. pain (visual analog scale, VAS), severity, functional status (Western Ontario McMaster Universities index, WOMAC), emotional status, quality life (Euro health-related inventory five dimension, EQ-5D), relative spectral power alpha waves electroencephalography (EEG). Results: Both groups reported statistically significant reduction end treatment detailed assessment function WOMAC electroencephalogram showed statistical difference group. However, there no intergroup differences, except VAS score. Conclusion: Adjuvant 2-week might have modest role disability OA. Larger, randomized controlled trials intervention long term period determine efficacy treating are warranted.
