ALUMINUM-FOR-IRON SUBSTITUTION, HYDROGEN BONDING, AND A NOVEL STRUCTURE-TYPE IN COQUIMBITE-LIKE MINERALS

摘要: A single-crystal XRD study of coquimbite specimens from Vulcano Island, Italy, and non-volcanic occurrences has confirmed the existence a marked difference in occupancy metal sites by Fe Al. For compositions with 1:1 Al:Fe ratio, novel structure-type corresponding to new mineral aluminocoquimbite was found, which demonstrates different behavior Al forming such complexes H 2 O sulfate ions, respectively. The hydrogen-bond geometry determined, peculiar cyclohexane-like arrangement molecules that do not coordinate atoms also been observed.
