摘要: Although cell-free biosystems have been used as a tool for investigating fundamental aspects of biological systems more than 100 years, they are becoming an emerging biomanufacturing platform in the production low-value biocommodities (e.g., H(2), ethanol, and isobutanol), fine chemicals, high-value protein carbohydrate drugs their precursors. Here we would like to define containing three catalytic components single reaction vessel, which although different from one-, two-, or three-enzyme biocatalysis can be regarded straightforward extension multienzymatic biocatalysis. In this chapter, compare advantages disadvantages versus living organisms, briefly review history biosystems, highlight few examples, analyze any remaining obstacles scale-up suggest potential solutions. Cell-free could become disruptive technology microbial fermentation, especially high-impact mainly due very high product yields potentially low costs.
