摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter describes the hydrogenolysis reactions of saturated hydrocarbons performed on platinum-based bimetallic catalysts. It shows how adjunction a second metal may change catalytic behavior platinum, depending nature element added and method preparation. Of all parameters involved, importance surface segregation has been focussed. Another possible cause unexpected results is modification chemical reactivity because alloying when oxidation-reduction treatments are involved in A photoemission technique used to study composition Pt-Pd, Pt-Ru Pt-Ir alloys over wide range bulk compositions. At low impurity contents, neither nor platinum could be oxidized. Several hypotheses (kinetics oxidation, oxygen spill-over, percolation effects, changes local electronic states) proposed elucidate this phenomenon. To get better understanding such systems, studies kinetics mechanisms must made addition use physical methods characterization.
