摘要: This descriptive study identifies patterns of land use among small farmer settlers in the Northeastern Ecuadorian Amazon using cross-sectional data collected approximately 400 households 1990. A “typology” is built and considered relation to two household characteristics: duration settlement labor. Several variations are identified according degree forest clearing they involve. Findings suggest that most reflect a low cleared area pattern which may be related “brake” family-based coffee production places on cultivated. Reducing by already region therefore mean reinforcing what doing. However, since lower welfare associated with areas patterns, their will involve making them more profitable. Improving well-being human as well natural resources frontier inevitably entail policy measures reconcile needs settler conservation.
