摘要: Basic to intermediate pyroclastic rocks of pre-Albian age are overlain by the Abakaliki shale Asu River Group in Eastern Nigeria. The has been assigned Albian on basis abundant (middle Albian?) ammonites found it. It was folded (together with pyroclastics) about a NE–SW trending anticlinal axis during Santonian time. This new evidence an early Cretaceous volcanism supports rifting African shield prior opening Southern Atlantic. latter event took place (probably stages) time ( i.e. less than 110 Ma ago), widespread marine transgression West Africa and South America.
