摘要: Summary Pearson's paper of 1900 introduced what subsequently became known as the chi-squared test goodness fit. The terminology and allusions 80 years ago create a barrier for modern reader, who finds that interpretation procedure assessment he achieved are less than straightforward, notwithstanding technical advances made since then. An attempt is here to surmount these difficulties by exploring relevant activities during first decade his statistical career, describing work contemporaries predecessors which seem have influenced approach problem. Not all questions answered, others remain further study.
