摘要: Objective Although catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) and asymptomatic bacteriuria (CAABU) are clinically distinct conditions, most literature describing the risks of does not distinguish between them. We studied relationship bacteremia from a source in CAUTI relative to that CAABU. Second, we investigated whether presence or absence symptoms catheterized patients with was associated any mortality. Finally, explored effect antimicrobial treatment on subsequent Design performed retrospective cohort study 30 days follow-up after an initial positive urine culture. CAABU were defined by Infectious Diseases Society America guidelines. Setting A large tertiary care facility. Patients All inpatients catheter (external indwelling) culture October 2010 June 2011. Results captured 444 episodes 308 patients; 128 (41.6%) had CAUTI, 180 (58.4%) Three followed (0.7%). rather than CAABU, source, but neither nor predicted Use agents treat either Conclusions Bacteremia infrequent, there no evidence association mortality symptomatic versus this population. Antibiotic did affect outcomes.
