摘要: Softening drinking water before distribution yields advantages with environmental impact, such as lower household products consumption, less scaling in piping and machines, the avoidance of decentralized, domestic softeners. Central softening is under consideration Flanders by largest supplier, VMW (Dutch acronym for "Flemish Company Water Supply"), to deliver soft (15 degrees F) their customers. A case study presented a region hard (47 F). The chosen technique pellet reactor, based on precipitation CaCO(3) NaOH addition. This operation has possibly large impact environment consumption pattern. cost-benefit analysis been made estimate added value central softening, investigating company, customers, employment, environment, health, etc. revealed benefits customers which were higher than costs company. However, pricing remains an important problem. sensitivity these results also made, evaluate hypothesis, be able expand this other regions. conclusions part show that beneficial if hardness decreased at least 5 F.
