Challenges in accessing multidisciplinary pain treatment facilities in Canada

摘要: Purpose: The objective of this survey was to examine the services offered by multidisciplinary pain treatment facilities (MPTFs) across Canada and compare access care at these MPTFs. Methods: A MPTF defined as a clinic that advertised specialized for diagnosis management patients with chronic pain, having minimum three different health disciplines (including least one medical speciality) available integrated within facility. search method included approaching all hospital rehabilitation centre administrators in Canada, Insurance Bureau Workplace Safety Board or similar body each province. Designated investigators were responsible confirming supplementing MPTFs from preliminary list Administrative leads eligible asked complete detailed questionnaire regarding their infrastructure, clinical, research, teaching administrative activities. Results: Completed forms received 102 (response rate 85%) 80% concentrated major cities, none Prince Edward Island Territories. offer wide variety treatments including non-pharmacological modalities such interventional, physical psychological therapy. median wait time first appointment public is six months, which approximately 12 times longer than non-public Eighteen fellowship programs exist Canadian 64% engage some form research activities Conclusion: are unable meet clinical demands suffering both terms regional accessibility reasonable patients’ appointment.
