摘要: OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS The efficacy of short-term oral corticosteroids in chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps (CRSsNP) is unknown. aim this controlled study was to assess the immediate and long-term outcomes from a short course commonly used corticosteroid, prednisolone, well-defined CRSsNP patients. STUDY DESIGN Prospective, observational study. METHODS A prospective-controlled patients treated with prednisolone at 0.5 mg/kg tapered over 10 days non-prednisolone (controls) follow-up 2, 6, 12 months. Baseline SinoNasal Outcome Test (SNOT)-22, endoscopy (Lund-Kennedy), sinus CT scan scores (Lund-Mackay) were compared. RESULTS At 2 months, there significant improvement SNOT-22, endoscopy, group (P < .0001) compared controls (p = ns, Mann-Whitney U test). 52.5% prednisolone-treated had improved symptoms did not require surgery 12 months 14.3% (P < .001). Side-effects reported 8.9% Patients who benefited median symptom duration 7.25 (99% confidence, upper limit 11) months 18 months those requiring surgery. CONCLUSIONS Short-term significantly all three clinical measures disease avoided surgical intervention first for less than 11 months most likely benefit. side-effects steroids careful consideration further studies are needed ascertain appropriate dosage treatment duration.
