摘要: Abstract An extensive new database identifying ice storm losses allowed a first, definitive assessment of these storms in the US. During 1949–2000, 87 major each causing property >$1 million, occurred and resulting totaled $16.3 billion. Storm frequencies were greatest northeast, southeast, central US, only 3 percent nation's west. More freezing rain occurrences Deep South produce than do elsewhere result variations prevailing storm-producing conditions. Severe peaked 1993–2000 when $5.8 Losses west infrequent but most since 1982. Recent increases faster growing areas nation reflect increasing societal vulnerability to storms.
