Marginal stability curve and linear growth rate for rotating Couette–Taylor flow and Rayleigh–Bénard convection

摘要: Results of high numerical accuracy are reported for the growth rate σ axisymmetric disturbances to circular Couette flow between concentric cylinders with inner one rotating and two‐dimensional pure conduction state a Boussinesq fluid horizontal parallel plates heated from below. When is positive, former case leads Couette–Taylor (CT) latter Rayleigh–Benard (RB) convection. The curve vanishing (marginal stability curve) Tc(q) or Rc(q), where q wave vector disturbance T R Taylor Rayleigh number, respectively, obtained both cases. correlation length amplitude ξ0 calculated by obtaining curvature marginal curve. σ0 was determined data T>Tc(q) R>Rc(q). In that range, qm maximum also found. For CT system, calculations were performed systematically as function radius ratio η 0.975≥η≥0.1. ...
