Results from E-Mevva and Z-Mevva: Development of new sources of intense high charge state heavy-ion beams

摘要: The authors are exploring a new approach for heavy ion beam injection (e.g., into the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at BNL), as well sources of intense high charge state ions to be mounted on relatively low voltage platform energy implantation. While conventional Metal Vapor Vacuum Arc (Mevva) can produce up hundreds milliamps or more several-times-ionized metal U3+), recent results from Batalin et al. indicate that addition an energetic electron (E-Mevva) may lead considerably higher states. An alternative way is Z-Mevva, in which z-discharge plasma used enhance multiple ionization. As vacuum arc plume expands magnetized drift region, triggered drifting plasma. then extracted and analyzed using time-of-flight system. report initial these schemes with applied discharge voltages 1 2 kV.
