摘要: The Iberian Peninsula is a repository for biodiversity, presenting high levels of endemism in both plants and animals. In this peninsular region, brook lampreys confined to small, isolated river basins evolved allopatry giving rise evolutionary lineages, as revealed by mitochondrial DNA markers. For better understanding the taxonomic status relationships populations genus Lampetra, we combined previous data from genetics morphological analysis (assessed here), describe three new species lamprey Lampetra Bonnaterre, 1788 Portugal. region L. planeri actually represent complex cryptic species, each having smaller geographic ranges than planeri, consequently, greater vulnerability extinction. description alavariensis sp. nov. based on 36 specimens collected Ribeira de Mangas, tributary Esmoriz, Northern auremensis described basis 31 do Olival, small Nabao (Tagus basin). Finally, lusitanica 38 da Marateca, Sado basin, southernmost distribution Lampetra. recognition these will contribute conservation already imperilled taxa help prevent extinction important lineages.
