摘要: This paper discusses two ways of forming Icelandic ability predicates: one with the present participle (Ability Participles, APs) and other an adjectivizing affix Adjectives, AAs). We show that they each share distinct properties passives middles (and differ from both). compare meaning different predicates; in APs, relates to understood subject or event process, whereas AAs, propertes object. On our analysis, head AAs attaches on top a participial structure which both APs share. working is available University Pennsylvania Working Papers Linguistics: http://repository.upenn.edu/pwpl/ vol20/iss1/37 Building Deverbal Ability Adjectives Jim Wood Einar Freyr Sigurðsson∗
