摘要: The chuditch is a carnivorous marsupial that has suffered catastrophic decline since European settlement in Australia. impacts of introduced foxes and feral cats are thought to have contributed this decline. Although populations appear respond favourably fox control, ecological theory predicts other predators, including cats, also likely increase abundance when removed. flow-on effects these predicted increases not known, but potentially significant for native fauna. Here, we review the evidence limiting on populations. We discuss (direct indirect) current control practices. Using recent advances carnivore community ecology, make testable predictions regarding interactions within predator guild. Experiments should adopt whole-of-community approach, seeking clarify entire suite as well diversity prey.
