摘要: This volume aims to satisfy a pressing need for an updated account of Chinese archaeology. It covers extended time period from the earliest peopling China unification Empire some two thousand years ago. The geographical coverage includes traditional focus on Yellow River basin but also China's many other regions. Among topics covered are emergence agricultural communities; establishment sedentary way life; development sociopolitical complexity; advances in lithic technology, ceramics, and metallurgy; appearance writing, large-scale public works, cities, states. Particular emphasis is placed great cultural variations that existed among different regions interregional contacts those societies.
