摘要: Taxonomic bias in organismal research and conservation is well recognized, with focus disproportionately directed toward birds mammals (1). Among mammals, carnivores often receive excessive attention large are particularly studied (2). Although papers reporting the population trends of a single species do not usually result high-profile publications, an analysis from across global range carnivore (3) now PNAS. To allay concerns that this simply more evidence taxonomic bias, some justification required. Here, I argue work Bauer et al. goes far beyond documenting species, posing, instead, fundamental questions about how biodiversity should function where it occur landscapes future.
