摘要: RATIONALE, AIMS, AND OBJECTIVES A reduction in the provision of hospital services on weekend probably explains higher mortality for patients who are either admitted to or undergo procedures weekend. The aim was examine effect day week admission (DOWOA) upon efficiency and quality care a cohort General Medical inpatients. METHODS Electronic records were selected unplanned adult admissions 2 large public hospitals Adelaide, South Australia, July 2012 June 2017. RESULTS consisted 50 323 records. number each differed significantly from 6389 Sundays 7548 Thursdays (P < 0.001). Discharges most frequent Fridays, fewest occurred weekends (P < 0.001) especially if aged over 80 years, they had significant comorbidity discharged residential facility. DOWOA did not influence proportion cases died (5.6% 6.4%; P = 0.47). affected median inpatient length stay (IPLOS; 3.1 3.9 days; P < 0.001). (IPLOS) matched days ensuing with longest IPLOS. CONCLUSIONS Medicine has an unaffected by DOWOA. Care efficiency, however, follows weekly cycle. "weekend effect" inpatients is prolongation their IPLOS as result fewer discharges.
