摘要: Responses of direction-selective neurons in cat striate cortex (area 17) were studied with flashed-bar stimuli. Spatial parameters interactions within the receptive field giving rise to direction selectivity and receptive-field subunits quantitatively determined for same cells correlated. A bar stimulus flashed sequentially at two nearby locations produced behavior comparable that elicited by continuously moving Each cell exhibited a characteristic optimal spatial displacement, Dopt, which responses presumed preferred null directions maximally distinct. In all cases, Dopt was much smaller than size. The structure fields simple using single narrow-bar stimuli different field. resulting line-weighting function alternating regions ON OFF having period or wavelength, lambda. subunit complex flashing bars simultaneously response as separation again wavelike Values displacement selectivity, showed clear relationship lambda, given unit. also correlated somewhat lesser degree Generally, ratio lambda approximately 1/10 1/4, agreement theoretical predictions Marr Poggio.
