摘要: Twelve peat clasts were recovered from a paleochannel deposit on Skidaway Island, Chatham County, Georgia. An AMS radiocarbon date plant stem in one of these indicates original deposition 36,830 ± 340 14C years B.P., and the stratigraphic position supports this age assignment. Fossil Pinus needles, pollen, testate amoebae provide snapshot environment biota at time when most other sites coastal Georgia not accumulating sediment. Pollen is dominated by genera common plain today (e.g., Quercus , Carya ). Morphological anatomical analyses fossil needles indicate they are either taeda or serotina which both currently inhabit Coastal Plain Seven amoeba taxa, all characteristic relatively dry peatland conditions, encountered clasts. Testate assemblages Hyalosphenia subflava taxon that typically dominant modern assemblages. More investigations describing occurrence distribution Quaternary amoebae, as well ecology biogeography necessary before significance can be assessed fully. Deposition occurred pollen evidence Florida warm wet climatic paleoecology climate also existed
