摘要: Field measurements of water flux in small diameter roots are important to the study whole plant transport systems. Miniature sap flow gauges were used capture high resolution patterns 2 – 5 mm and simultaneously canopy branches a Eucalyptus saligna tree growing Hawaii. The axial rates then correlated with anatomical describe internal hydraulic capacity tree. daily showed strong coupling between root systems both tightly synchronized rapid fluctuations photosynthetic photon density, vapour pressure deficit, wind speed. When normalized by total vessel lumen area, had totals equivalent surface roots. Daily flows through consistently 30% greater than deep Results an experiment where portion was removed decrease for all nearly direct proportion leaf area. suggested system containing smaller number vessels per unit sapwood area but diameters twice that branches. However, relative conductivity values similar comparable some highest reported. Overall, results highly efficient would help maintain favorable status maximal stomatal opening.
