摘要: This paper poses two questions: why did the equilibrium rate of unemployment rise so much in 1970s, and does increase rapidly during recessions, but decrease slowly subequent recovery, i.e. is persistent? We find that rose because economy’s inability to adjust adverse shocks time; employment contracted some sectors not expand sufficiently others. In answer second question, we sources persistence are different for men women. Male has been persistent because, following a recession, created female dominated sectors, rather than male which experienced greatest decline employment. Female growth demand labour matched by its supply. Finally, recessions appear have permanent effect on sectoral composition economy; i.e., periods accelerated structural change.
