The similarities the theories community ecology population genetics suggest that within communities populations are driven by same four general mechanisms: (1) drift, (2) dispersal, (3) selection, (4) formation new variants (i.e. speciation mutation). Since, for both diversity, relative significances each first three mechanisms very much influenced characteristics environment, correlations i.e. species-genetic (SGDCs), expected. Considering practical conservation most often focuses on (or surrogates thereof), SGDCs could provide information how management decisions influence diversities populations, thus also their viabilities. Furthermore, teasing apart drivers can offer mechanistic explanations therefore a process-based approach to conservation. I studied generalizability SGDC role environmental means literary review empirical studies natural dragonfly damselfly communities. then conducted individual-based simulations assess inbreeding depression due loss extinction rates neutral multispecies metacommunities. My results highly variable systems interactions ecologically similar structures. Therefore, question utility using or structures as concern. my if intraspecific is not explicitly considered, metacommunities might be underestimated.
