摘要: Abstract In many forest ecosystems, fire is critical in maintaining indigenous plant communities, but can either promote or arrest the spread of invasive species depending on their regeneration niche and resprouting ability. We examined effects cutting burning treatments vegetative response (cover, stem density) root resources Oriental bittersweet ( Celastrus orbiculatus ), a liana to North America that was introduced from East Asia. Treatments were control, spring cut, burn, cut & summer fall herbicide. Cover reduced greatest by herbicide treatments, increased more second year moraine soils than sandy soils. Burning combined resulted resprout density four times greater prior treatment for stems C. during growing season (summer) total nonstructural carbohydrates 50% below early levels 75% dormant levels, did not significantly reduce carbohydrates. Thus, quite responsive as disturbance root-suckering creates additional opportunities growth attainment canopy. The positive has important implications management lianas fire-dependent landscapes.
