摘要: The accidental melting of radioactive sources hidden inside metal scrap containers can produce severe environmental harm. Modern facilities are equipped with portals measuring radiation levels. Nonetheless, pass undiscovered when shielded shells high density material, such as lead. From time to indeed some undetected through the controls at foundries entrance. Once melted they caused enormous damages steel mills, contaminating all production line. muon tomography technique allows discriminate high- Z materials multiple scattering cosmic ray muons matter. Therefore this be used analyze a truck container searching for high-density source shields. We report here results about simulation studies portal. Within Mu-Steel European project we developed prototype design, three-dimensional images reconstruction software and material identification algorithm. MonteCarlo was validated data from large volume demonstrator (~11 m3) built using spare drift-time chambers CMS energy physics experiment operating Large Hadron Collider CERN.
