摘要: The number of mitotic chromosomal C-bands, the percent ofthe genome comprised C-band heterochromatin, and size (4C DNA content) were determined for 22 North American inbred open-pollinated lines Zea mays. C-bands ranged from 0 in Tama Knobless Flint to 18 Zapolate Grande. heterochromatin 0% 16.9% Tx601. Genome varied over 23%: Gaspe had lowest content (9.82 pg), Grande thehighest (12*12 pg). amount significantly correlated. corn assigned five maturity zones encompassing a south-to-north range Mexico Canada. Significant negative correlations detected between zones, among lines. It is speculated that simultaneous selection by man earlier maturation plant may be related lower varieties adapted higher latitudes. Such larger plants have been achieved through more cells, which could result shorter cycle time correlates with reduced amount.
