摘要: We describe the epidemiological and clinical features of human Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE) Kunjin (KUN) virus infections in Western Australia (WA) during March to July 2000. A case series was performed. For laboratory-confirmed cases, travel histories details were collected from patients, family members, friends or treating physicians. Surveillance data sentinel chicken program climatic conditions reviewed. Nine encephalitic cases MVE recorded. Eight non-Aboriginal adults (age range, 25 79 years; 5 male, 3 female) 1 an Aboriginal boy. Four acquired infection Murchison Midwest regions WA which no have been reported previously. One 9 fatal had severe neurological sequelae. Five non-encephalitic also recorded, 2 KUN. Encephalitis caused by remains a serious problem with improvement outcomes last years. Excessive rainfall widespread flooding northern two-thirds provided ideal for mosquito breeding favoured southerly spread into new more heavily populated areas. chickens trapping needs expansion define boundaries activity. To enable timely warnings public, institute control where feasible, continued surveillance all Australian areas at risk is indicated.
