摘要: Although the resistance of snakes to their own venom is well known, until now no investigators have examined serum Australian snakes. Here we describe identification and purification a range phospholipase A(2) (PLA(2)) inhibitors from elapids. All PLA(2) were composed two protein chains, an alpha-chain beta-chain. The alpha-chains approx. 22.5 kDa in size variably glycosylated, whereas beta-chains 19.8 not glycosylated. Identification isoforms subunit chains was significant because three six sera single snake specimens. In addition, glycosylation patterns thoroughly investigated these unpooled sera. functional structural properties purified studied. Uniquely, inhibitor found inhibit human type II enzyme, which has implications for treatment many diseases enzymes been implicated. Further, demonstrate that forms non-covalent association with enzyme. Finally, shown protect vivo against lethal affects homologous suggesting role bite victims.
