摘要: METIS, is one of the ten instruments selected to be part Solar Orbiter payload; it a coronagraph that will investigate inner heliosphere performing imaging in visible band and hydrogen Lyman α line @ 121.6 nm. METIS has recently undergone throughout revision simplify instrument design. This paper provide an overview updated hardware software design as presented at Instrument Delta-Preliminary Design Review occurred April 2014. The current configuration foresees two detectors, Intensified APS for UV channel light equipped with Liquid Crystal Variable Retarder (LCVR) plate perform broadband polarimetry. Each detector proximity electronics generating control readout signals sensor but operations devices are charge centralized unit, Processing Power Unit (MPPU). MPPU operates remaining electrical subsystems supplying them power providing on board storage processing capabilities. Its redundancy most critical parts, thus mitigating effects possible failures subsystems. central monitoring unit also communication S/C, handling telemetry telecommand exchange platform. data acquired by detectors shall undergo through preliminary on-board maximize scientific return necessary information validate results ground. Operations images summing, compression cosmic rays removal fundamental not only mitigate main sources noise data, volume transferred spacecraft order fully exploit limited bandwidth downlink. Finally, being deep-space mission, some procedures have been designed efficient autonomous behavior case immediate reaction required arising transient events or occurrence safety hazards conditions.
