摘要: Abstract Temperate forests have been fundamentally altered by land use and other stressors globally; these reduced the abundance of primary old-growth in particular. Despite many regional studies, literature lacks a global synthesis temperate structural characteristics. In this study we compare derived data on mature moist with aim of: (i) exploring commonalities; (ii) investigating sources variability among systems; (iii) highlighting gaps research needs. We compiled dataset 147 records from 93 papers, analyzed set indicators: basal area, stem density, large living trees, live aboveground biomass, quadratic mean diameter, coarse woody debris volume. These indicators were contrasted between age classes at level across continents broad forest types, testing for significance through Monte-Carlo permutation procedure. also related to age, climatic geographical descriptors. Our results suggest that all vary systems relation geographical, compositional, influences. However showed commonalities structure when compared forests: significantly higher densities amounts biomass debris. Furthermore found inconsistency variables reported different papers; lack studies Russia, Western Central Asia. The findings improve our understanding function, will help inform sustainable management conservation approaches world-wide.
