Excess Mortality Risks in Institutions: The Influence of Health and Disability Status

摘要: Mortality in the institutionalized aged population is generally recognized as being considerably higher than among those living independently; whereas independently, there a greater risk of mortality alone with other adults (generally spouse and/or children). However, given that liable to be poorer, and poorer health independent-living population, it unclear whether results from their health, or causes associated institutionalization. The Belgian Census 2001, coupled near-complete follow-up deaths over subsequent year (2002), enables us compute reasonable measure at time census thus separate out effects status conditions on mortality. Taken across entire nationals resident Belgium 65 above (N = 1.64 million cases full data), controlling for background characteristics, we find except very old ages, age homes have private housing, irrespective status.
