Congenital rubella syndrome: pattern and presentation in a southern Nigerian tertiary hospital

摘要: Congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) resulting from maternal infection can result in miscarriages, still birth and of the infant. The aim this study was to evaluate pattern presentation CRS over an 8-year period as seen University Port-Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Nigeria. medical records all cases presenting Pediatric Department UPTH January 2000 December 2007 were reviewed. There 16 394 babies delivered 2007. Of these babies, 19 clinically diagnosed having CRS, but none had laboratory confirmation. They a mean age 5.1 ±3.2 months (range: 1–11 months). Seventy-five percent their mothers presumed during first trimester pregnancy. Cataract noticed be most prominent systemic manifestation 18 babies. Other common manifestations included hearing impairment (n=14), microcephaly (n=13), patent ductus arteriosus (n=11), low weight (n=10).
