摘要: This paper presents levels and trends of adult male mortality in India its major states during the post-independence period applying widowhood method on census data. It also estimates for all districts from India. We adjusted possible bias due to remarriages examined sensitivity different scenarios remarriage rates. Comparison with direct official sources supports credibility estimates. Information obtained widows aged 40–44 45–49 provided most convincing patterns mortality. Trends suggest that maximum gain 45q15 occurred 1949–1960. Adult varied substantially across Although life expectancy has been rising India, rate reduction decreasing over last few decades.
