摘要: PURPOSE To report a patient with rare complication of bilateral keratomalacia induced by uncontrolled phenylketonuria (PKU) that was successfully treated amniotic membrane transplantation in 1 eye and penetrating keratoplasty the second eye. METHODS Case literature review. RESULTS A 9-month-old girl PKU referred to our clinic because keratomalacia. Slit-lamp examination right revealed 2 large corneal erosions stromal thinning on nasal inferior regions cornea. Left area melting involving two thirds cornea perforation iris bulging temporal side no anterior chamber. She underwent her left Treatment after surgery included antibiotic steroid drops special diet regimen partial phenylalanine intake. Examination under anesthesia 4 months intact clear graft deep chamber Intraocular pressure normal both eyes. CONCLUSIONS Bilateral keratomalacia, although ophthalmic manifestation PKU, can cause severe injury may threaten eyeball integrity. Surgical treatments transplantation, along appropriate treatment, were found be effective procedures, yielding rapid healing surface.
