摘要: Chemoreception might play an important role for endemic shrimp that inhabit deep and dark hydrothermal vents to find food sources locate active edifices release specific chemicals. We compared the chemosensory abilities of Mirocaris fortunata coastal related species, Palaemon elegans. The detection diverse ecologically relevant chemical stimuli by antennal appendages was measured with electroantennography. 2 species can detect food-related odor sulfide, a short-distance stimulus, via both their antennae antennules. Neither iron nor manganese, considered as long-distance stimuli, detected appendages. Investigation ultrastructure aesthetasc sensilla revealed no features regarding innervation olfactory sensory neurons. Pore-like structures occurring in cuticle dense bacterial covering seem be unique but potential link chemoreception remains elusive.
