The clinical utility of the dexamethasone suppression test in psychiatry. Summary of a National Institute of Mental Health workshop

摘要: The dexamethasone suppression test (DST) is being increasingly used in psychiatry, especially the differential diagnosis of affective disorders. In light this, National Institute Mental Health convened a workshop clinical scientists drawn from neuroendocrinology, psychopathology, and general psychiatry to review evidence for efficacy use DST psychiatry. Specifically considered were DST's relevance diagnosis, its as predictor response treatment, relationship with other biologic variables, technical issues. panelists concluded that at this time there are no clear indications routine or management depression, although it useful research tool. Areas potential utility include prediction suicidal activity, relapse, diagnosis. ( JAMA 1983;250:2172-2174)
