“Whoa! They Could’ve Arrested Me!”: Unsuccessful Identity Claims of Women During Police Response to Intimate Partner Violence

摘要: Many jurisdictions in the U.S. have implemented mandatory arrest policies an attempt to limit police officers' discretion their decisions when responding intimate partner violence calls. Drawing from semi-structured interviews with female victims of violence, I explore ways which influenced identity work women during interactions officers. focus specifically on women's "unsuccessful" claims: situations where are unable convince officers that they and not victims. examine strategies use consequences failed self presentations under policies, most significant is a woman's arrest. argue for many women, risk even more consequential than before these were established.
