摘要: In order to simulate abrasion of dual-phase materials containing large carbides under fixed depth conditions an apparatus has been designed and used perform scratch tests at a cut on such materials. The test consists two support arms tipped with small steel balls held in contact surface by /sup 700/ g, while the tool is mounted tip central arm whose adjustable length allow control cut. does not deflect significant when it encounters carbide. Scratch new have performed Co-base Stellite alloys Cr-rich carbides, using individual particles alumina as tools generate scratches. A situ SEM also genrate load Comparison scratches shows that for comparable average depths, deflects over without causing fracture, but since cannot induces gross carbide fracture. Results suggest can be successfully employed abrasion, which previouslymore » shown fracture these alloys. simulates those occur rubber wheel tests. 12 refs., 9 figs« less
