摘要: Archival tags were used to study the movement and depth behaviour of school sharks, Galeorhinus galeus,in southern Australia. Thirty fish tagged in late 1997, date there have been nine recaptures (30% recapture rate). Periods at liberty varied from 8 days 18 months. The sharks spent about 80% their time on continental shelf, appeared swim close bottom during day. At night they often ascended for periods up several hours, except times around full moon. When deep water, typically descended dawn depths 600 m, before ascending dusk. It was not possible use light data estimate position when because beyond sensitivity tag. In shallower longitude estimated but latitude maximum daily depth, assuming bottom. timing dives deepwater sufficiently regular offer prospect using it longitude. We propose future research archival this species should address questions female reproductive migrations, pelagic vertical movements.
