摘要: Objective: Metastases of the adrenal gland are a frequent finding in patients with malignant tumors like bronchogenic carcinoma or breast cancer. Only limited and conflicting data on adrenocortical function these available. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: We investigated impact macrometastases series 28 tumor using ACTH1‐24 stimulation test dexamethasone suppression test. Seven normal controls (Con), eleven without metastases (No Met), eight unilateral (Uni Met) nine bilateral (Bil were investigated. Results: The prevalence insufficiency was low our study population, only two having subclinical insufficiency. In remaining uni- metastases, baseline stimulated cortisol concentrations higher than cancer (baseline (in nmol/l): Con: 307633.2 vs Uni Met: 440 6 53.5, Bil 637.6 92.1, P 0.04 by ANOVA; 60 min after :C on: 794.66 41.2 990.8 92.9, 1151.4 155.5, 0.03 ANOVA). Simultaneously, serum aldosterone significantly blunted groups. Conclusions: Adrenal is infrequent develops metastases. However, majority have activation hypothalamic‐pituitary‐adrenal axis despite strongly elevated concentrations.
