Predictors of cardiovascular fitness in sedentary men.

摘要: The relative contribution of anthropometric and skeletal muscle characteristics to cardiorespiratory fitness was studied in sedentary men. Cardiorespiratory (maximal oxygen consumption) assessed using an incremental bicycle ergometer protocol 37 men aged 34–53 years. Vastus lateralis biopsy samples were used assess fiber type composition (I, IIA, IIX) areas, capillary density, activities glycolytic oxidative energy metabolic pathway enzymes. Correlations (all p < 0.05) observed between maximal consumption (L·min–1) body mass (r = 0.53), index 0.39), waist circumference 0.34), fat free (FFM; r 0.68), 0.33), the enzyme activity cytochrome c oxidase (COX; IIA 0.40) IIX 0.50) area, number capillaries per 0.39) 0.37) fiber.
